Skin Booster Treatment: Am I Suitable, And Which One? —
Matched To What The Skin Lacks

Skin booster treatment suits concerns about the quality of the skin, such as dryness, dullness, crepiness and rough texture, on a face whose shape is largely intact. Which booster suits you depends on what your skin is short of, and this page explains how that is matched and who should wait.

Short Answer

The Short Answer

Book a Consultation

A skin booster is a good fit if your complaint is how your skin looks and behaves rather than the shape of your face. It adds no volume and lifts nothing, so hollows, descended tissue, pigment and tethered scars are directed to other treatments.

The booster class is chosen at examination by what the skin lacks, not by brand name.

The Assessment

Four Problems That Look Alike

Dull, tired skin can come from four different changes, and only three of them are booster questions:

  1. Dehydration: a dry, lacklustre surface on which make-up sits poorly.
  2. Early loss of firmness: crepey skin that crinkles when pressed but has not descended.
  3. Poor texture or repair: rough, thin, reactive or post-acne skin.
  4. Structural change: hollowing or loosening beneath the skin. This is not a booster question.

Dr Sin Yong separates them by looking at the skin under good light, stretching it and pinching it to judge thickness and recoil, and by checking for volume loss and descent.

Skin Booster Singapore: Matching The Goal To The Class

Atelier chooses among three booster mechanisms, set out on skin boosters at Atelier. The same complaint can lead to a different class depending on how thin the skin is, how quickly you want change, any fish allergy and what has been injected before.

Which skin booster class fits which goal
Your goalUsually considered firstNot a booster question
Hydration and glow in dull, dry skinHyaluronic acid bioremodeller (Profhilo)Eczema or a damaged barrier, which is treated first
Firmer, less crepey skinProfhilo; PDLLA where gradual thickening is wantedJowls or a loose jawline, which need lifting
Smoother texture, calmer reactive or post-acne skinPolynucleotides (Rejuran)Pore size itself, which injectables cannot shrink
Skin quality around treated acne scarsRejuran S, after the structural workTethered scars, which need subcision first
Fine crepe under the eyesAssessed separately; see under-eye linesHollows, fat bags or fluid, diagnosed first

Waiting And Caution

Who Should Wait, And Who Is Directed Elsewhere

  • Wait: an active cold sore, acne flare, eczema or infection where the injections go; pregnancy or breastfeeding; a short gap after a laser, peel, filler or thread in the same area.
  • Assessed individually: blood thinners or a bleeding tendency, which raise the chance of bruising; autoimmune disease; a tendency to keloids.
  • Not suitable for a given product: allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine excludes products containing them; a fish allergy makes salmon-derived polynucleotides a careful discussion, and sometimes they are set aside.
  • Poorly matched: wanting an instant change from PDLLA or polynucleotides, whose effect builds gradually.
  • Directed elsewhere: hollows to filler; descended tissue to lifting such as VF Lift – Vertical Facelift; pigment to laser; tethered scars to subcision.

At Atelier

How This Is Assessed At Atelier

Dr SY examines the skin and the structure beneath it, asks about earlier injectables, recent treatments, allergies and medicines, and then names one class, a sequence of classes, or no booster at all. A booster treats only the skin's own environment, so pigment, early laxity or uneven texture may need laser, lifting or RF microneedling in the same plan.

FAQ

Skin Booster Suitability — Common Questions

Ask a Question
You are likely to suit one if your concern is dryness, dullness, crepiness or rough texture and your face has kept its shape. Broadly, Profhilo suits dryness and early crepiness, polynucleotides suit thin, reactive or post-acne skin, and PDLLA suits gradual thickening of thin skin. Hollows, jowls, pigment and tethered scars need other treatments. Dr SY confirms the class at an examination.
No. A hollow is missing volume, and boosters are designed to spread through or act on the skin rather than occupy space. Hollow cheeks are assessed for filler or a collagen biostimulator, chosen by depth and region. Once the volume question has been dealt with, a booster may be added later for the quality of the skin over it, if that is still a concern.
It can help the skin around scars that have already been treated, but it cannot lift a scar on its own. Tethered rolling scars are released first with subcision, and pitted scars are treated with resurfacing or TCA CROSS. Polynucleotides, usually Rejuran S at Atelier, are then used to support the quality of the skin as it repairs. Active acne is settled before any booster.
Tell the clinic before anything is planned. Rejuran and other polynucleotides are salmon-derived, so a fish or seafood allergy is discussed in detail and they are sometimes set aside. Hyaluronic acid boosters such as Profhilo, or PDLLA, may be considered instead, provided you are not allergic to their components. The decision and its reasons are recorded in your written plan.
