Hand Rejuvenation —
The Detail Most People Miss

Hands age faster than the face and are almost never treated. Restoring dorsal volume smooths the contour and softens the prominence of veins and tendons — a short treatment with an immediate, disproportionate effect.

The Anatomy

A Thin Layer, Lost Early

Book a Consultation

The back of the hand carries only a thin layer of subcutaneous fat. In youth it provides a smooth, cushioned surface over the extensor tendons and metacarpals. From roughly the fourth decade that layer depletes, and the underlying architecture becomes visible — tendons standing proud, metacarpal outlines defined, and the dorsal venous network increasingly prominent.

Filler placed in the correct plane restores that cushion. It does not remove veins or tendons — it pads the tissue around them, which reduces how sharply they read. The effect is immediate, and because the hand is not an expressive area, results tend to sit undisturbed.

Pigmentation is a separate matter. Solar lentigines accumulate on the dorsal hand faster than almost anywhere else, and no amount of volume restoration addresses them. Where both are present, Dr. Sin Yong sequences laser and volume rather than treating one and calling it complete.

Filler does not remove veins or tendons. It pads the tissue around them so they read less sharply.

FAQ

Hand Rejuvenation — Common Questions

Ask a Question
The dorsal hand carries a thin layer of subcutaneous fat that gives it a smooth, cushioned appearance in youth. From the fourth decade this depletes, revealing extensor tendons, metacarpal bones and the venous network in increasing detail.
Filler placed in the dorsal subcutaneous plane restores that lost cushioning — smoothing the contour and reducing the visible prominence of veins and tendons. The result is immediate and requires no downtime.
Volumising products with good spread characteristics suit the dorsal hand. Collagen stimulators are often preferred because they build the patient's own tissue over months rather than only occupying space.
The dorsal hand contains superficial veins and tendons. Cannula technique in the correct plane, above the fascia and below the dermis, keeps product away from those structures.
Solar lentigines on the dorsal hand respond to laser protocols. Volume and pigment are separate problems — restoring contour does not address sun spots, and treating spots does not restore contour.
