Skin Booster Aftercare —
One Routine, Three Mechanisms

The skin boosters used at Atelier work in different ways: a hyaluronic acid bioremodeller spreads, polynucleotides act on repair, and PDLLA builds collagen over months. Much of the aftercare is shared; the bumps, and when the result can be judged, differ by type. Dr Sin Yong gives written instructions for the booster you had.

Day One

1. The First 24 Hours

Book a Consultation

Profhilo, Rejuran and similar injectable boosters leave small raised bumps where they were placed, sometimes with pinpoint bruises and mild tenderness. They are expected and usually settle within a few hours to a day or two. Choosing a booster is covered on skin boosters at Atelier.

Do

  • Let the bumps settle by themselves.
  • Use a gentle cleanser in the evening.
  • Sleep with your head slightly raised.

Avoid

  • Massaging the bumps, unless you have been told to.
  • Make-up for about twelve hours, and longer over any point that is still open or raised.
  • Strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol, since heat and extra blood flow can increase swelling and bruising.
  • Facials.

By Booster Type

2. The First Week, Type By Type

The routine above is written for hyaluronic acid and polynucleotide boosters. What differs is the bumps and how long the result takes.

Hyaluronic acid bioremodeller (Profhilo)

One bump at each of five points per side, usually flat within hours to a day or two. Details are on Profhilo aftercare and Profhilo downtime.

Polynucleotides (Rejuran, PDRN)

Many small papules spread across the area, which can be more noticeable and occasionally last a little longer. The product is salmon-derived, so a fish or seafood allergy is raised before treatment. See Rejuran aftercare and Rejuran downtime.

PDLLA

A gradual collagen response over three to six months. How its aftercare differs is in the questions below.

Skin And Sun

3. Skincare And Sun Protection

Normal skincare can usually restart the next day; the product pages above note where a booster asks for longer. If your skin feels tight or sensitive, keep retinoids and exfoliating acids aside for a day or two more.

Wear sunscreen daily while the skin responds over the following weeks.

Everyday Life

4. Exercise, Sauna, Make-Up And Flights

Exercise and heat. Gentle walking and ordinary activity are fine. Strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol wait at least 24–48 hours.

Make-up. When it goes back on, apply it gently over closed points; over Profhilo points, wait until the bumps have flattened. Concealer can then cover a pinpoint bruise.

Flights. Flying is usually fine the next day.

Other appointments. In the early phase, leave energy treatments and microneedling over the same area, and dental work unless the clinic has agreed it.

Safety

5. When To Contact The Clinic

Fading bumps, pinpoint bruises, mild tenderness and some tightness are expected. These should be checked.

FAQ

Skin Booster Aftercare — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Which product was used, in which areas, and when. Keep a note of each product you have, and do not have different products placed in the same area by different clinics without telling each of them. The warning signs on this page apply whoever gave the injection, and Dr SY assesses your skin before recommending more.
The shared first-day routine stays the same. The difference is in the bumps: Rejuran's papules can be more noticeable and last a little longer than Profhilo's, so plan your week around the longer of the two. How the two are sequenced is decided at consultation, and your written aftercare covers both.
Not over the same area in the early phase. At Atelier, laser or RF microneedling can sit in the same plan as a skin booster, for example where uneven texture or atrophic scarring needs deeper work, but the treatments are spaced as your plan sets out rather than given back to back.
Not necessarily, so follow the written aftercare Dr SY gives you for the PDLLA product used; the routine on this page is written for hyaluronic acid and polynucleotide boosters. Timing differs most. PDLLA prompts a collagen response that builds over three to six months, so its result is judged over months rather than weeks, and it is not a quick fix before an event.
