HIFU treatment for a double chin works on one part of the problem: loose skin and platysma under the chin. It does not shrink fat, move a gland, bring a short chin forward or change posture, so the cause is found before focused ultrasound is planned.
Under the chin lie skin, fat, the platysma (a thin muscle sheet), more fat, and salivary glands. Focused ultrasound heats small points in two of these, loose skin and the platysma, which contract and remodel over 8–12 weeks.
Everything else stays as it was, so a double chin made mostly of fat, or one caused by a short chin, looks much the same afterwards. Double chin treatment covers every cause; this page covers only what HIFU can change.

Who It Suits
What responds is a soft envelope: skin that gathers and creases as you tilt your head down, with little fat in the pinch. It is commonest from the late thirties, and also follows weight loss that left the skin behind, once the area has settled. Lean people get double chins too: a short chin, low hyoid bone or short neck makes the area look full, and heat changes none of them.
