Profhilo Downtime —
A Short Visible Phase

After Profhilo, the visible part is brief: a small bump at each injection point, much softer by that evening for most people, and sometimes a bruise. The change in your skin comes later, and slowly. Dr Sin Yong judges it at the follow-up visit, so treat these timings as a guide.

A typical pattern; yours may differ. What to do in each phase is on Profhilo aftercare, and the treatment itself is on Profhilo at Atelier.

Typical recovery after Profhilo; timing varies
WhenWhat you may noticeMost people can
Day 0A soft, dome-shaped bump at each of the five points per side: over the cheekbone, near the base of the nose, in front of the ear and along the lower face. Mild redness, possibly a pinpoint bruise. In most people the bumps are much softer by that evening.Carry on with ordinary activity. Keep close-up meetings, cameras and heat until the bumps have flattened.
Days 1–3The bumps flatten as the gel spreads. A faint softness can remain where a bump was, which is the gel still dispersing.Work and see people. Walking is fine from the next day, and make-up can go on once the points have closed and the bumps have flattened.
Days 4–7The bumps have gone before any bruise finishes fading. Bruising, tenderness or brief swelling after an injectable usually settles within 3–7 days.Cover a fading bruise with a little make-up if you wish.
Week 2 onwardsThe skin looks ordinary. Nothing about the shape of the face has changed, because Profhilo adds no volume.Attend the second session, four weeks after the first.
When results showHydration, firmness and elasticity change gradually, building over four to eight weeks, then fading slowly over the following months.Have the change judged at the follow-up visit, not in the first days.

Work And Social Life

2. Work And Social Plans

The visible phase is short. What others might notice is the bumps on the day itself and, now and then, a small bruise for a few days afterwards.

If your work puts you close to people or in front of a camera, keep the treatment day clear and allow for a bruise over the following few days.

Slower Recovery

3. What Can Lengthen The Visible Phase

  • Thin skin and bright light. Both make the bumps easier to see, and for longer.
  • Blood thinners and some supplements. Blood thinners, aspirin, fish oil and similar supplements make a bruise more likely. Tell Dr SY about them beforehand; never stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it.
  • Pressure. Massaging the points, or sleeping face-down on them, moves the gel unpredictably.
  • Heat. While the bumps can still be seen: saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, very hot water on the face, alcohol and hard exercise.

Events And Travel

4. Planning Around Events

Booking Profhilo just before a wedding or a photo shoot gives you the bumps without the benefit, because the change in your skin builds over weeks rather than days. The standard course at Atelier is two sessions four weeks apart, so start early and let Dr SY plan the dates with you.

For photographs, allow a few days after each session for any bruise to fade. Flying is usually fine once the bumps have settled.

FAQ

Profhilo Downtime — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Yes, for ordinary work. Up close, each point may still show as a small dome with a little redness, easier to see in thin skin and bright light, so leave close-up meetings and cameras until the bumps have flattened. In most people they are much softer by the evening, and gone before any bruise has finished fading. The shape of your face does not change, because Profhilo adds no volume.
Usually not. A faint softness can stay for a while after a bump is no longer visible: that is the gel still dispersing through the skin. A firm lump that remains once the other points have settled is different, as is a point that becomes hotter, redder or more painful. Those are examined at the clinic rather than massaged, and hyaluronidase is available where it is needed. A pale, dusky or blotchy patch is an emergency: contact the clinic straight away, or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
Because the bumps are not the result. The change in hydration, firmness and elasticity comes from your own collagen and elastin, and it builds gradually over four to eight weeks. The first days are the wrong time to judge your skin. Dr SY assesses the change at the follow-up visit, when the second session is also confirmed.
The pattern is the same. Each point on the neck or the back of the hand leaves a small bump that settles as it does on the face, with mild redness and, occasionally, a small bruise. Bumps show more in thin skin, and the skin of the neck and hands is thinner than that of the face, so they may be easier to see at first.
