Radiofrequency · Collagen Remodelling · Pacific Plaza
Radiofrequency skin tightening in Singapore covers several devices that share one principle: an alternating current meets the resistance of your tissue and turns into heat, which contracts collagen and prompts new collagen over the following months. What separates them is the path the current takes, and that decides which layer is warmed. At Atelier, Dr Sin Yong chooses between monopolar radiofrequency, RF microneedling and dual-energy RF after finding where your skin has loosened.
Radiofrequency (RF) is electrical energy in the megahertz range. As the current passes through skin, the tissue resists it, and that resistance produces heat. Existing collagen tightens as it warms; the lasting change comes later, as fibroblasts lay down new collagen over months. A cooled surface protects the outer skin while heat builds in the dermis and the fibrous strands, or septa, beneath it.
RF is not a laser, so it does not rely on pigment to absorb the energy. It is also not focused ultrasound: it warms a volume or a zone of tissue rather than placing small points of heat at fixed depths. Where that warmth sits depends on the circuit:
None is a grade above the others; each tells you where the heat goes.

Who It Suits
RF suits a face with mild to moderate looseness that has kept its volume, early crepey skin on the neck or eyelids, and, with microneedles, texture, pores and some acne scars. It is often chosen for Fitzpatrick III to V skin because it does not depend on melanin.
A salon RF facial usually uses a low-energy handheld probe with closely spaced electrodes, warming only the superficial dermis, so skin looks flushed and slightly tighter for a while. A return pad on your back or abdomen means monopolar RF; needles mean microneedling. Both are medical procedures, done by a doctor after an examination.
| Type | Layer heated | Suits | Not for | At Atelier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monopolar | Deep dermis and septa, as a volume | Mild to moderate laxity of the cheeks, jawline, neck and eyelids | Volume loss, heavy fat, marked loose skin, deeper descent | Thermage FLX; VF Lift – Vertical Facelift |
| Bipolar surface handpiece | Superficial to mid dermis, a confined zone | Surface firmness and texture, over repeated gentle sessions | Deep laxity; it does not reach the septa | Not offered at Atelier as a standalone facial |
| RF microneedling | A chosen depth in the dermis, in small columns | Rolling and shallow boxcar scars, enlarged pores, texture, early laxity | Tethered scars, deep ice-pick scars, pigment, lifting | RF microneedling; Luminescence |
| RF with ultrasound | Deeper skin, with ultrasound for support layers | Jowls, jawline and body areas | Heavy descent or excess skin | Svelte Touch |
| Body RF | Skin and compact fat | Pinchable, stubborn fat and the skin over it | Large-volume fat, major skin excess, weight loss | 4K Body Lift |
The Decision
Loose skin over a face that still has its volume is RF territory. Tissue that has slid deeper may suit HIFU or a thread lift, sometimes alongside RF; how the two energies divide the work is set out in radiofrequency vs HIFU. A hollow cheek needs volume, through filler or a biostimulator, not heat. Heavy facial fat or marked loose skin after large weight loss is a surgical question, referred on. Tethered scars are released by subcision first, and deep ice-pick scars are treated with TCA CROSS.
Thermage FLX and Volnewmer both run at 6.78 MHz; Thermage cools with cryogen bursts, Volnewmer with continuous water cooling. For a wider view of the options, see skin tightening treatment in Singapore.
On The Day
Recovery
Skip saunas, hot yoga and strenuous exercise for a short period, usually 24 hours. Use a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturiser and daily sunscreen, and leave acids, retinoids and scrubs until the skin has settled. After microneedling, keep the skin clean and avoid make-up until the tiny channels have closed. Results are judged against your photographs at a follow-up visit. Device-specific advice is in Thermage aftercare, VF Lift aftercare and RF microneedling aftercare.
Risks
Surface cooling, energy set by your feedback and lighter settings over thin skin keep these risks down. Contact the clinic the same day about a blister, crusting, redness that spreads, a new dip in the skin or numbness that is not improving.
