Thermage Aftercare —
Keep The Heat Away

Thermage FLX asks little of you afterwards: a plain routine, sunscreen and a few days away from heat. This page covers the day, the first week and the months after, and the signs that mean you should message Dr Sin Yong at Atelier rather than wait.

Day One

1. The First 24 Hours

Book a Consultation

Thermage FLX warms the dermis with monopolar radiofrequency while cryogen cools the surface, so there is no wound to dress. How long the pinkness and slight swelling tend to last is on the Thermage downtime page.

Do

  • Wash with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water, then apply a plain moisturiser.
  • Put on sunscreen before you go outdoors.
  • Carry on with your normal day; gentle walking or light exercise is usually fine.
  • Take paracetamol for tenderness, if it suits you. It is usually enough.

Avoid

  • Saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and very hot showers.
  • Heat-based facials, firm massage and rubbing the treated skin.
  • Retinoids, exfoliating acids and other strong actives.
  • Strenuous exercise and alcohol, until the warmth and swelling have settled.

The First Week

2. Days Two To Seven

For a few more days, keep heat off your face, including long afternoons in the Singapore sun, because warmth keeps the skin pink for longer. Avoid pressing on areas that are still tender.

If filler, an injectable or another energy device is planned over the same area, keep to the spacing Dr SY set in your plan rather than your own timetable. Should a small blister, crust or dark spot appear, do not pick it; photograph it and see section 5.

Skin And Sun

3. Skincare And Sun Protection

Keep to three steps: a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturiser and a broad-spectrum sunscreen each morning. Retinoids and exfoliating acids stay out for two or three days, or until any redness has gone if that takes longer; strong exfoliants wait as well. If a doctor prescribed your retinoid, check the pause with that doctor.

Sun protection matters even more if a small burn or blister has formed, because in Asian skin a minor burn can heal with a dark mark. After the first week, daily sunscreen and a simple routine support the skin while new collagen forms.

Daily Life

4. Exercise, Heat, Make-Up And Flights

  • Exercise: gentle walking straight away; harder sessions once the skin no longer feels warm.
  • Sauna, steam and hot yoga: a few days, until redness and warmth have settled.
  • Make-up: usually from the next day. Leave any welt, blister or crust bare until the clinic has seen it.
  • Flights: most people can fly the day after treatment.
  • The months after: Thermage FLX is a single session, and the result develops over two to six months, so judge it at your follow-up visit rather than in the first weeks.

When To Call

5. When To Contact The Clinic

Problems after Thermage FLX are uncommon, but these signs should not wait for a scheduled visit. Message the clinic on WhatsApp at +65 8023 7170 (Monday to Saturday, 11:00–20:00), with a photograph, if you notice:

  • a blister, crust, open area or dark mark;
  • a raised welt or line that does not flatten;
  • swelling that is marked, one-sided or still growing;
  • numbness, tingling or facial weakness that persists;
  • a dent or hollow, or an area that feels firm or raised;
  • one patch that stays red much longer than the rest.

Worsening pain, an open area or a fever needs a same-day assessment, wherever you are. Out of hours, for an emergency, go to the nearest hospital emergency department. The complication care guide sets out which signs need urgent help.

FAQ

Thermage Aftercare — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Give them two or three days, or wait until any redness has fully gone if that takes longer. Until then, a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturiser and sunscreen are enough, and scrubs and other strong exfoliants stay out too. Once your skin looks and feels ordinary again, your usual routine can return, with daily sunscreen continuing while the collagen change develops.
Gentle cleansing and moisturising are fine from the first day. Heat-based facials, steam and saunas wait until the redness and warmth have settled, usually a few days. Firm massage over skin that is still tender can make swelling worse, so leave it until the tenderness has gone. If a facial involves a device or an active product, check the timing with the clinic first.
Blisters, crusts and dark marks are uncommon, because the surface is cooled throughout treatment. If one appears, do not pick it. Keep it clean, protect it from the sun and send the clinic a photograph so Dr SY can see it. Because a small burn may heal darker in Asian skin, keep it well protected from the sun until it has fully healed. Worsening pain, an open area or a fever needs a same-day assessment.
That depends on your plan rather than a fixed rule. Injectables and other energy devices over the same area are spaced in the order Dr SY sets at consultation. Thermage FLX is planned as a single session, with the change building over two to six months, so any further step is discussed at a follow-up visit once the result has had time to show.
