Leg Laser Hair Removal Singapore —
Mapped Region By Region

Leg laser hair removal in Singapore covers skin and hair that change from thigh to ankle, so at Atelier the legs are mapped into regions, each set on its own. Dr Sin Yong chooses the wavelength region by region, spaces visits to the leg's slower hair cycle, and plans around sun on the shins.

The Mechanism

One Leg, Several Skins

Book a Consultation

The laser heats pigment in growing hairs, as the laser hair removal page sets out. From thigh to ankle, though, hair thickness, skin tone and sun exposure all change, so one setting would under-treat some regions and over-treat others.

The legs are therefore drawn as regions on a diagram at the first visit, and the same map is used each time.

Who It Suits

Half Leg, Full Leg, Or Thighs

Half leg runs from the knee to the ankle, front and back, knee included. Full leg adds the thighs up to the bikini line. Thighs can be treated alone; feet and toes are optional. Tattoos, moles, healing scars and recently treated veins are left off the map.

Dark hair responds; very fine down, and hair that is white or grey, has too little pigment for a laser to target. See is laser hair removal suitable for me.

Rough thighs. Bumps on the thighs are often keratosis pilaris: keratin plugs blocking the follicle, sometimes with a coiled hair trapped inside. Laser acts on the hair, not the keratin: fewer hairs can leave the skin smoother and less speckled, but the condition is not cleared. Scratched or inflamed bumps are settled first.

The Decision

Setting Each Region, And The Sun On Your Shins

Shins are often the most tanned skin on the body in Singapore. A tan puts extra pigment at the surface, which takes up energy meant for the follicle, and dark marks on shins can be slow to fade. During a course: no tanning or sunbeds, daily sunscreen on exposed legs, and self-tan faded before a visit. A sharp tan line is treated as two regions.

Wait during pregnancy, with infection, inflamed folliculitis or eczema on the leg, and until recent isotretinoin or a sun-sensitising medicine has been discussed.

On The Day

A Leg Session, Step By Step

  1. Shave a day or two before; freshly shaved shins are often nicked. Do not wax or epilate.
  2. Wash off moisturiser, sunscreen and self-tan.
  3. Dr SY checks each region for tan, irritation and moles, and confirms its wavelength.
  4. Eyewear goes on, and the legs are treated region by region, then checked.

Recovery

After A Leg Session, And When To Return

Redness and follicle bumps settle on their own; a cool compress and bland moisturiser are enough. For a day or two avoid hot baths, saunas, swimming, hard exercise and tight leggings. See laser hair removal aftercare.

Leg follicles rest for longer than those of the face or underarm, so fewer are growing at any visit, and returning too soon reaches the same hairs twice. Visits are timed to regrowth on each region, as how many laser hair removal sessions explains. New coarse thigh hair in women is checked for a hormonal cause.

Risks

Risks And Side Effects

Redness and bumps are common. Blisters, crusts and darker or paler patches are less common, most often on tanned shins; folliculitis and burns are rare. Send the clinic a photograph for a blister, spreading redness or a colour change; see post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

FAQ

Leg Laser Hair Removal — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Half leg covers the shin, calf and knee, front and back, down to the ankle. Full leg adds the whole thigh up to the bikini line. Feet and toes are optional in either. The regions are kept on a diagram, so each one can be followed.
Often, yes, for the untanned parts. The thighs may go ahead while the tanned shins wait for the tan to fade or move to the 1064 nm wavelength at lower settings. Keep using sunscreen on your legs, because a deeper tan by the next visit delays that region again.
No. Keratosis pilaris comes from keratin plugging the follicle, and the laser targets pigment in hair, not keratin. Where trapped hairs add to the roughness or dark specks, reducing hair can make the skin feel smoother, but the tendency remains. Treatments aimed at the condition itself are on the keratosis pilaris page.
Because leg hair follows a slower cycle. Leg follicles rest for long stretches, so fewer are growing at any one time, and only growing hairs respond; returning too early treats the same group again. The underarm cycles faster, so it is often further through its course.
Yes, around them. Tattoos are left untreated, because the ink absorbs laser energy. Dark moles are avoided, and any mole that has changed is checked first. Healing scars and recently treated veins are also marked on the leg map so the laser does not pass over them too soon.
