Underarm · The Fold Read First · Pacific Plaza
Underarm laser hair removal in Singapore treats coarse, dark hair on fold skin that is thinner and often darker than the arm. At Atelier, Dr Sin Yong sets the clinic's laser hair removal system for the underarm itself, settles shaving rash first, and treats dark underarm skin separately.
The laser heats melanin in the hair shaft, and the heat reaches the follicle, as the laser hair removal page explains. Armpit hair is coarse, dense and dark, so the target is strong.
The skin is the difficulty. A fold is warmer, moister and thinner than open skin, and often a shade or two darker from friction, razors and deodorant. That pigment competes with the hair for the energy, and thin skin blisters or marks sooner.
At A Glance
Settings are confirmed once the fold is examined.
What It Treats
It helps with shaving time, stubble shadow and ingrown hairs. A razor cuts coarse hair at an angle, and the sharp tip can curl back under the skin as it regrows. Fewer, finer hairs mean fewer such tips. Inflamed bumps are settled first, and recurring ones are examined, because folliculitis looks similar.
It does not lighten underarm skin; pigment has its own causes, set out on dark underarms. Where shaving irritation feeds it, hair reduction comes first and pigment work follows on separate visits, as underarm treatment describes. Heavy sweating is a third question, for hyperhidrosis treatment.
The Decision
A forearm that reads as Fitzpatrick III can sit beside an underarm that behaves like type IV, and Dr SY follows the darker reading.
Wait during pregnancy, with an infection in the fold, and until recent isotretinoin or a sun-sensitising medicine has been discussed. Velvety, thickened dark skin is checked for a medical cause first. The wider list is on is laser hair removal suitable for me.
| What the fold shows | Usual approach | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Light skin, dark coarse hair | 755 nm, conservative | Strong hair-to-skin contrast |
| Fold darker than the arm | 1064 nm, or 755 nm set lower | The darker zone sets the margin |
| Fitzpatrick IV to VI | 1064 nm, often after a test patch | Less taken up by surface pigment |
| Recent tan or self-tan | Deferred, or 1064 nm | Surface pigment draws energy away |
| Shaving rash or folliculitis | Deferred until settled | Inflamed skin marks more readily |
On The Day
Recovery
Warmth, redness and follicle bumps settle by themselves; a cool compress helps. That day, keep the fold cool and dry, and skip saunas and hard workouts. Keep deodorant off pink skin; a fragrance-free one is usually fine from the next day, scented or alcohol-based ones later. See laser hair removal aftercare and laser hair removal downtime.
Underarm hair cycles faster than leg hair, so early visits catch many growing hairs and later ones target the finer hairs left; how many laser hair removal sessions explains the timing.
Risks
Common: redness, bumps and mild swelling that settle; small crusts over dense hair, left alone. Less common: blistering, burns, and darker or lighter patches, more likely on a darker or irritated fold. Rare: folliculitis.
Send the clinic a photograph for a blister, spreading redness, oozing, or a patch darker or paler than the skin around it; see post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
