Pre-Wedding · Planning · Pacific Plaza
A bridal aesthetic treatment timeline works backwards from the wedding date: treatments that need several visits or a check are started early, anything that has to heal is finished early, and nothing new is started in the last two weeks. This guide from Atelier, where Dr Sin Yong is Medical Director, sets out what belongs at six, three and one month, and why the pre-wedding shoot is a deadline of its own.
Every treatment runs on two clocks: how long it takes to work, and how long it takes to settle. A skin booster course needs several visits weeks apart. Filler is judged at about two weeks, once swelling has gone. Energy-based tightening builds collagen over 8–12 weeks. Resurfacing has to heal, then lose its pinkness.
So the question is not which treatment, but in what order. Three rules hold the plan together:
The months below are planning frames, not promises. Your own dates are set at consultation, once Dr SY has examined your skin.
At A Glance
A typical sequence; a later start keeps the order with fewer steps.
| Time before the wedding | Usually planned | Usually left out |
|---|---|---|
| About six months | Consultation; acne control; pigment plan; skin booster course; filler and energy-lifting decisions; scar resurfacing, completed in this window | Nothing is ruled out yet, but treatments are spaced rather than stacked |
| About three months | A progress check; a first BTX dose if you have never had one; final dates fixed | New treatments with a healing phase, unless the margin clearly allows |
| About one month | Last skin booster session; BTX check; a look at earlier filler; make-up rehearsal | New filler, laser, resurfacing or skincare actives |
| Final two weeks | Your usual gentle routine | Any procedure, extractions, new products, deliberate sun |
| Pre-wedding shoot | Its own deadline, with the same two-week buffer | Injectables close to the shoot date |
Six Months Out
Acne comes first. Active spots leave marks, and marks take months to fade, so breakouts are brought under control before anything cosmetic is planned (acne treatment). Mention any acne medicine you take, as some change when laser can follow.
Pigment needs a staged plan. Melasma is managed rather than removed: sun and heat control and topical care come first, and laser toning, where it suits, is given over several sessions with sun protection in between. Other brown marks are sorted by type on pigmentation removal.
Skin boosters suit the long lead. At Atelier a hyaluronic acid bioremodeller is usually two sessions four weeks apart, and polynucleotides three to four sessions at two- to four-week intervals (skin boosters). Starting now leaves room to finish and judge the course.
Structural choices are made now. Cheek, chin or jawline filler placed at this stage leaves time to settle, to adjust, or to dissolve with hyaluronidase if needed. Energy-based tightening such as HIFU belongs here too, because its collagen response takes weeks to build. Fractional resurfacing for acne scars, if planned, should be completed within this window, not merely started.
Three Months Out
Three months out, the skin booster and pigment plans are checked and adjusted. It is also the last window in which a treatment with a healing phase can start with a reasonable margin.
If you have never had BTX, this is where a first dose belongs. It starts to work in three to seven days, reaches full effect at about two weeks and is checked then. Done now, it shows how your muscles respond, which dose suits you and whether both sides move evenly, and any repeat can be timed for the day. A first try weeks before the wedding leaves no room to correct anything.
One Month Out
The last month is for small changes to treatments your face already knows: a final skin booster session, a BTX check, a look at earlier filler. No new filler, lasers or resurfacing, and no new skincare actives: a retinoid or acid started now can leave skin red and flaky on the day.
A Hydrafacial can fit here as maintenance if your skin has had one before; its redness usually settles within hours. Keep the last one outside the final two weeks, because the extraction step occasionally brings out a few spots. The make-up rehearsal belongs in this month too.
The Final Fortnight
In the last two weeks, leave out injections, filler, lasers, resurfacing, microneedling, extractions, strong facials, new products and deliberate sun. Keep the routine you know: a gentle cleanser, moisturiser, daily sunscreen and any prescribed topical your skin already tolerates.
If a spot, a cold sore or a rash appears, it is managed conservatively. Picking, extraction and peeling are avoided, because they can leave a mark that outlasts the problem. Send the clinic a photograph rather than booking a procedure.
The same rule applies before a beach honeymoon. Recently treated skin darkens readily in strong sun, so finish treatment well before you travel and pack a shade plan with the sunscreen.
The Photo Shoot
If your pre-wedding photographs are taken before the wedding, the shoot needs the same two-week buffer, counted back from its own date. Studio flash and heavy make-up show what daylight hides: leftover swelling, a small bruise, filler sitting too close to the surface and uneven redness.
When the shoot comes first, the timeline moves forward to meet it, so give Dr SY both dates.
At Atelier
The plan starts with a consultation at Atelier, at Pacific Plaza on Scotts Road, ideally around six months before the wedding. Dr SY examines your skin and checks for anything that changes the timing: acne medicines, recent treatments elsewhere, a tendency to bruise or to darken after inflammation.
You leave with a dated sequence that names what starts when, and what is better left until after the wedding. A later start still works, with fewer stages. Fees follow the plan and are quoted in writing after the consultation; how we quote explains what changes them.
