Smile Line Filler Singapore —
Support Above, Least In The Fold

Smile line filler is hyaluronic acid (HA) used to soften the nasolabial fold, the line that runs from beside each nostril down towards the mouth corner. At Atelier Aesthetics, Dr Sin Yong places most of it in the cheek above the fold; the crease gets the least product, or none.

The Mechanism

Filler Behind The Fold, Not In It

Book a Consultation

A deep fold usually means the cheek above has emptied and slipped onto a line that does not move; nasolabial folds explains why. Filler cannot lift tissue back up, but it can replace lost support.

So laugh line filler works on two levels. First, deep HA in the mid-face, often as cheek fillers, so the fold shallows from above. Second, only if a crease still shows, a little soft HA at the fold. Reversing that order is why filling the fold alone fails.

Specifications

Target
Lost mid-face support behind the fold first; a residual crease only if one remains
Method
HA placed deep in the mid-face, then a little soft HA at the fold if needed, by fine needle or blunt cannula chosen for the layer
Sessions
Assessed at consultation; often staged, with the fold judged at the two-week check
Downtime
Mild swelling or bruising, usually settling within 3 to 7 days
Numbing
Numbing cream; most HA fillers also contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic

Who It Suits

Which Folds Respond To Filler

Filler for smile lines tends to help when the cheek has flattened and the fold deepened with it, including after weight loss once weight is stable, or when a fine crease remains after the cheek is supported.

It helps little when the cheek has mainly slid, when the face already looks full, or when a young face has a strong fold by build. A fine etched line in thin skin often suits a skin booster better.

The Decision

When Filler Is The Wrong Tool

Dr SY separates lost volume from descent and from skin. Descent points to lifting, such as the VF Lift – Vertical Facelift, HIFU or threads, before filler. The wider plan is set out under volume restoration.

Wait during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an infection or cold sore near the mouth, or while still losing weight. Discuss first blood thinners, autoimmune disease, lidocaine allergy and any earlier fold filler: collagen-stimulating fillers cannot be dissolved, so planning around them is more cautious.

Cheek Fillers

On The Day

A Smile Line Filler Appointment

  1. Earlier filler is noted; if the history is unclear, ultrasound shows where it sits. Photographs are taken with consent for your medical record only.
  2. You receive a written plan naming areas, product and depth.
  3. Entry points are marked with you upright, and numbing cream applied.
  4. Mid-face support goes in first, slowly and in small amounts, comparing sides.
  5. The fold is rechecked with you smiling; any crease work is a little soft HA, often left for the two-week check.
  6. Skin colour is checked before you leave; hyaluronidase is kept on site.

Recovery

The First Two Weeks

Expect tenderness on smiling or chewing for a few days. Leave the area alone, sleep on your back for a night or two, and avoid saunas, alcohol and hard exercise for 24 to 48 hours. The fold is judged at about two weeks. See dermal filler aftercare and dermal filler downtime.

Risks

Risks, And The Artery Beside The Fold

Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common; less often, lumps, asymmetry, or a bluish tint if HA sits too superficially. Repeated filling can leave the cheek-lip zone heavy and flat, corrected by dissolving with hyaluronidase before rebuilding.

The facial artery runs close to the fold, so placement follows the anatomy, in small amounts at low pressure. Rarely, filler blocks a vessel. Act at once on white, dusky or net-like skin or worsening pain, and treat any change in vision as an emergency: see filler vascular occlusion warning signs.

FAQ

Smile Line Filler — Common Questions

Ask a Question
They overlap. Laugh line filler names the problem; cheek filler names the place. Because a deep fold usually reflects lost cheek support, much of a smile line plan goes into the mid-face, and none may reach the crease. A little soft hyaluronic acid at the fold is a separate, later step, used only when a line still shows.
It should not, when the amount is small and the layer right. The fold sits in a very mobile part of the face, so excess product there can show as a fullness beside the mouth that moves as one block when you smile. The crease therefore gets the least product, and the face is checked smiling before you leave.
Hyaluronic acid filler generally lasts 6 to 18 months, depending on the product, placement and person. The visible softening can fade before the gel has gone, so product may remain after the effect seems over. What is left is assessed before any top-up, so layers do not build into a heavy cheek and lip area.
Neither removes the risk. A blunt cannula is often chosen where suitable because it is less likely to enter a vessel; a fine needle gives precision for deep placement on bone or a small superficial touch. What matters most is knowing where the facial artery runs, keeping to the planned layer, injecting slowly in small amounts, and having hyaluronidase in the room.
It follows the examination, not a set number of syringes. It changes with how much mid-face support each side needs, the product, whether work is staged over more than one visit, whether old filler must be dissolved first, and whether lifting is planned alongside. Sometimes less filler than expected is needed, or none. How we quote explains the written plan.
