Ultherapy Aftercare —
Gentle Days, Patient Months

Ultherapy asks little of you afterwards: most people go back to normal activity the same day. The care that matters is gentle skin handling and sun protection for a few days, patience with a sore jaw, and knowing which marks or changes Dr Sin Yong should see.

Day One

1. The First 24 Hours

Book a Consultation

Redness and slight swelling are expected and usually settle within hours. How the treatment is planned is on the Ultherapy treatment page.

Do

  • Wash with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, without scrubbing, then use a plain moisturiser and sunscreen.
  • Ease any swelling with a cool compress, ten minutes at a time.
  • Take paracetamol if you need something for tenderness; it is usually enough.
  • Carry on with your ordinary day.

Avoid

  • Anti-inflammatory painkillers, if you bruise easily, until the clinic has agreed them.
  • Rubbing the treated areas.
  • Alcohol.
  • Saunas, steam rooms and hot yoga.

The First Week

2. The First Week

Tenderness along the jawline and cheeks, often noticed when you chew, yawn or touch the area, is the main thing you will feel. It can last several days, and occasionally longer, easing gradually.

  • For a night or two, an extra pillow under your head helps if the face feels puffy.
  • Choose softer food over hard chewing on a sore side, and avoid pressing on tender points.
  • Leave heat-based facials, and any energy device over the treated areas, for the first few days.
  • You may see a small bruise or raised lines where the rows were placed, or feel tingling or a numb patch near the jaw; these fade over days to weeks.

Unsure whether a mark is expected? Send a photograph to the clinic on WhatsApp and ask.

Skin And Sun

3. Skincare And Sun Protection

Sunscreen goes on from the first day, alongside a gentle cleanser and a plain moisturiser. Retinoids and exfoliating acids can usually return after two or three days, or once the redness has settled.

Keep up daily sun protection through the following months while the collagen response develops.

Everyday Life

4. Exercise, Heat, Make-Up And Flights

Exercise. Light exercise is usually fine on the same day or the next, as far as is comfortable. Hot yoga, saunas and steam rooms wait a few days.

Make-up. Usually fine from the next day, unless the skin is still marked or tender.

Flights. Most people can fly the next day.

Combined plans. If your plan pairs Ultherapy with another treatment, it sets the order and the gap between them; book nothing outside it.

The months after. The collagen response builds over 8–12 weeks and is assessed at about three months, with improvement developing over three to six months.

Safety

5. When To Contact The Clinic

Contact the clinic the same day about any of the following, rather than waiting for your three-month assessment.

  • Skin: a blister, a burn mark, an open area, or a raised welt along a treatment row that has not flattened.
  • Movement and feeling: any weakness of the lip or smile, difficulty raising a brow, or numbness or tingling that persists.
  • Swelling and pain: swelling that is marked or on one side only, or pain that is getting worse.
  • Shape: a new hollow or dent in a treated area, or unevenness that worries you.
  • Feeling unwell: a fever.

WhatsApp +65 8023 7170 (Monday to Saturday, 11:00–20:00). Worsening symptoms, a blister or open area, or a fever need assessment the same day wherever you are; out of hours, if a sign cannot wait, go to the nearest hospital emergency department. Slurred speech, weakness of an arm or leg, a change in vision or difficulty breathing is an emergency at any hour: call 995. Focused ultrasound complications and complication care explain these problems.

FAQ

Ultherapy Aftercare — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Tenderness along the jaw and cheeks, often noticed when you chew or yawn, usually lasts several days and occasionally longer. It should ease gradually rather than build. Softer food helps meanwhile, and paracetamol is usually enough if you need something. Pain that increases instead of fading, or comes with marked swelling on one side, is a reason to contact the clinic.
For most people, yes: flying the next day is usually fine. Pack sunscreen, expect some tenderness along the jaw, and keep the clinic's WhatsApp number with you. If a blister, an open area, worsening symptoms or a fever develop while you are away, have them assessed the same day where you are rather than waiting until you return.
Yes, if you are unsure whether it is expected. A small bruise, slight swelling or raised lines where the rows were placed are common after Ultherapy and fade over days to weeks, but a photograph sent on WhatsApp lets the clinic tell you whether a mark is ordinary or needs to be seen. Say when you were treated and how the mark has changed.
Only as your plan sets out. Where Ultherapy is combined with another lifting or skin protocol, the sequence and spacing are decided in advance for your face. In the first few days, keep heat-based facials and other energy devices away from the treated areas. If you are thinking about a treatment that is not in your plan, ask the clinic before you book it.
