Acne Scar Treatment Downtime —
Each Step Heals Its Own Way

An acne scar plan at Atelier follows an order: tethers released, ice-pick tracts treated, then the surface resurfaced. Each step has its own downtime, and Dr Sin Yong times every stage to healed skin.

Subcision, and any injectable placed under a scar, bruise without breaking the surface; TCA CROSS and fractional CO2 crust; RF microneedling largely spares the top layer. Your scar types decide the steps, as acne scar treatment explains.

How each step of an acne scar plan usually recovers
WhenWhat you may noticeMost people can
Day 0Subcision: swelling and bruising begin under intact skin. TCA CROSS: each scar frosts white. CO2: redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, seeping. RF microneedling: red, warm, tight skin.TCA CROSS: go about the day. Subcision: no strenuous exercise until the swelling settles. CO2: stay at home.
Days 1–3Subcision: often purple bruising; swelling for two or three days. TCA CROSS: each point darkens into a small crust. CO2: bronzed, rough crusting. RF microneedling: redness for one to three days.RF microneedling: work the next day for most. Subcision: make-up once entry points have sealed.
Days 4–7Subcision: the bruise fades; tenderness settles within the week. TCA CROSS: crusts separate after roughly five to seven days. CO2: crusts shed to pink skin.TCA CROSS: make-up around dry crusts. CO2: varies with depth.
Week 2 onwardsSubcision: bruising has usually faded within ten days. TCA CROSS: in some Fitzpatrick III to V skin, small dark dots that generally fade over two to four months.Usual plans, with strict sun protection.
When results showNew collagen fills over six to eight weeks after subcision or TCA CROSS, and keeps changing for months after the last session. Each next stage is timed to healed skin, not to a date.

Work And Plans

2. Work And Social Plans

Release and injection steps suit weeks when a bruise can be covered. Most people work through TCA CROSS dots (TCA CROSS aftercare) and from the day after RF microneedling (RF microneedling downtime).

Resurfacing is the stage for a quiet period at home; its timeline is on CO2 laser downtime, and the protocol on Tetra Pro Scar³ acne scar treatment.

Slower Recovery

3. What Can Lengthen Recovery

  • Active acne. New inflammation creates new marks, so acne is controlled first.
  • Stages too close. Resurfacing usually waits until subcision bruising has resolved, and is placed where it will not disturb TCA CROSS points still healing.
  • Picking. A TCA CROSS or CO2 crust lifted early can leave a mark that lasts longer than the scar did.
  • Sun. Darkening around treated points is the main risk in Fitzpatrick III to V skin; avoid direct sun from day one.
  • Blood-thinning supplements. Fish oil, vitamin E and ginkgo add to bruising. Prescribed blood thinners are never stopped without the prescribing doctor's advice.

Message the clinic the same day (WhatsApp +65 8023 7170, Monday to Saturday, 11:00–20:00) if pain, swelling or warmth builds, redness spreads, a crust turns thick and yellow or weeps, or you notice pus, fever, clustered small blisters or, after an injectable, a painful or growing lump. White, dusky or mottled skin after an injectable cannot wait: contact the clinic now, and if you cannot reach it, go to the nearest hospital emergency department (vascular occlusion warning signs). Out of hours, take urgent signs there too.

Events

4. Planning Around An Event

Give Dr SY your fixed dates at consultation so the sequence can be arranged around them. Subcision and TCA CROSS sessions are usually six to eight weeks apart, and each stage waits for healed skin, so a plan needs room. Squeezed to fit a wedding or trip, it tends to do less well.

FAQ

Acne Scar Treatment Downtime — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Usually not: each scar type answers to a different method. A rolling scar is held down from beneath, so resurfacing leaves the dip until subcision releases it. An ice-pick tract is too narrow and deep for a laser to reach its base, so TCA CROSS is used. RF microneedling, with a shorter visible phase than CO2, is considered for some boxcar scars. Scar type sets the method, and downtime the timing.
Skin heals better from one injury at a time, and the visible phases are kept apart. Some steps can share a visit: subcision with TCA CROSS to ice-pick scars, or with an injectable in the released plane. Resurfacing usually comes once the bruising has resolved, because release changes the contour the laser works on. Each next step is timed to healed skin at a follow-up visit.
Usually, yes. Cutting the fibrous bands leaves a small space that fills with blood and then new collagen over six to eight weeks, and the maturing tissue feels firm for a few weeks before softening. A painful, growing lump, increasing pain or spreading redness is different: message the clinic the same day.
Most people do. Only the scars are treated, so there is no general peeling or redness. The small crusts on each point separate by themselves after roughly five to seven days. The dots show at close range; make-up can usually go around dry crusts. Leave them untouched and out of the sun.
