Ellansé Downtime —
The Gel Fades, The Collagen Follows

Ellansé shows some shape on the day; then its gel is slowly absorbed while new collagen forms over months. Here is how it may look and feel, when you can be seen, and how to plan events. Dr Sin Yong judges the result at a later visit, so treat these timings as a guide.

Recovery Timeline

1. What You May Notice, And When

A typical pattern; yours may differ. Care for each phase is in Ellansé aftercare; product choice is on volume restoration.

Typical recovery after Ellansé; timing varies
WhenWhat you may noticeMost people can
Day 0Volume shows straight away, partly from the gel carrier. A bruise can form where the needle crossed a vessel. The area is tender and firm where the gel sits.Carry on with ordinary activity; there is no dressing.
Days 1–3Swelling and tenderness ease, and a bruise passes through its colours. Swelling can settle unevenly, especially along the jawline.Work and see people, if comfortable.
Days 4–7For most people, mild swelling or bruising after an injectable settles within 3–7 days. Some firmness may remain.Go ahead with most social plans once any bruise has faded or can be covered.
Week 2 onwardsThe gel softens and is absorbed over the following weeks, so the area may look slightly less full; this is the gel going, not a failed treatment.Report any lump that remains once the swelling has gone.
When results showCollagen forms around the microspheres over the following months.Attend the follow-up visit, timed for when the gel has gone and collagen has begun to form; the timing varies.

Work And Social Life

2. Work And Social Plans

Ordinary activity usually carries on from the day itself, with no dressing to explain. Others may notice swelling or a bruise, so the first few days matter most if your work puts you in front of people or a camera.

If a work lunch or dinner falls in those days, a treated chin or jawline may ache as you chew; this is part of the expected tenderness.

Slower Recovery

3. What Can Slow Things Down

A few things make bruising or swelling more likely, or keep it going:

  • Blood thinners and some supplements. Blood-thinning medicines, aspirin, fish oil and similar supplements make a bruise more likely. Dr SY asks about them beforehand; never stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it.
  • Pressure, heat and handling. Sleeping on the treated side, massage, saunas, alcohol, hard exercise, facials or dental work before the swelling settles can all prolong it; what to avoid, and for how long, is in Ellansé aftercare.

A complication changes the timetable. Message the clinic the same day, with a photo, about a lump that grows, spreading redness, heat, increasing pain, a blister or fever. A dusky, blotchy, pale or net-like patch, painful or not, needs the clinic straight away; out of hours, or if you cannot reach it, go to the nearest hospital emergency department. Any change in vision: go to the emergency department at once. See vascular occlusion warning signs.

Events And Travel

4. Planning Around Events

Book Ellansé so that visible swelling, and any bruise, are over before a wedding, photo shoot or important meeting. After injectables these usually settle within 3–7 days, but allow for longer.

Do not plan to add product just before an event. Placement is staged: Dr SY places a conservative amount first and decides on more only after the gel has gone, when the collagen response can be judged.

FAQ

Ellansé Downtime — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Yes. In the first days the firmness comes from the gel carrier and the swelling together, and it softens as the gel integrates over the following weeks. A discrete lump that is still there once the swelling has gone, or one that grows, is different. Leave it alone, do not massage it, and message the clinic so Dr SY can examine it.
Usually, yes. Swelling often settles unevenly, especially along the jawline and chin, so the two sides may not match for a while. Message the clinic if the swelling is marked, one-sided and increasing, or comes with redness, heat or worsening pain. Symmetry is judged once the swelling has gone, not in the first days.
A bruise is possible where the needle crossed a vessel, and more likely if you take blood thinners, aspirin or fish oil. It passes through its usual colours as it fades, and after injectables mild bruising usually settles within 3–7 days. A dusky, blotchy, pale or net-like patch is not a bruise: contact the clinic straight away or, if you cannot reach it, go to an emergency department.
Leave a short gap between the injection and your flight home, so early swelling can be checked before you go, and keep events out of the first days. The follow-up visit comes after the gel has been absorbed and collagen has started to form, so plan a second trip for it. While away, message the clinic with a photo if anything changes; urgent signs go to the nearest emergency department wherever you are.
