Morpheus8 vs RF Microneedling —
How They Differ

Microneedling with radiofrequency is a category of treatment, and Morpheus8 is one branded device within it rather than a separate procedure. This page explains where devices in the category differ, why the plan matters more than the name, and what to ask before any session. Morpheus8 is not offered at Atelier; RF microneedling is, planned and performed by Dr Sin Yong.

All RF microneedling systems push fine needles to a chosen depth and then deliver radiofrequency to create small zones of controlled heat in the dermis. The skin then remodels, laying down new collagen and elastin over several months. What changes between brands is the engineering: how the needles are insulated, how deep they go, how the energy is delivered and how the tip is designed.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is made by InMode. Its needles are coated along the shaft with an exposed tip, bipolar current passes between needles on the same tip, and a burst mode can fire at more than one depth with a single insertion. Its face tips reach several millimetres, and its body applicator goes deeper, aimed at fat under the skin as well as the dermis.

RF microneedling at Atelier

Atelier uses insulated needles that release bipolar radiofrequency at their tips, so heat builds in the dermis while the surface is largely spared. Depths are chosen per zone, around half a millimetre for texture and two millimetres or more for scar tethering, and often stacked in one session. Details are on the RF microneedling page.

Which Problem

Why Depth Is A Setting, Not A Score

A deeper needle is not a stronger treatment. Depth should match the layer that holds the problem: shallow for texture and pores, deeper for scar floors and thinned dermis. In a slim face, heating the fat layer by mistake can leave a hollow, which is why Atelier aims RF microneedling at the dermis.

Insulation matters more than reach in skin that darkens easily. Concentrating heat at the tip keeps it away from the pigment-bearing surface, the reason insulated needles are favoured in Fitzpatrick III to V skin. Radiofrequency does not target pigment, so melasma-prone skin still needs care and a changed sequence.

Head-to-head trials between branded devices are scarce, and neither device has been shown to do better than the other. The published support is for RF microneedling as a technique, mainly for atrophic acne scars.

Before You Book

RF Microneedling Singapore: What To Ask Any Clinic

  • Which tip will be used, and are its needles insulated?
  • What depth is planned for each zone of my face, and why?
  • How will the energy be set for my skin type, and what happens if darkening appears?
  • Is the doctor who examined me the one who sets the parameters and treats me?

On any platform, expect redness, swelling and pinpoint marks that settle. Settings and skin type influence the less common risks: a grid of marks, darkening that lasts, and uncommonly burns or textural change. Active acne, infection, a keloid tendency and pregnancy are reasons to wait whichever device is used.

How Atelier Decides

How Atelier Plans RF Microneedling

The plan starts with an examination, not a device. Dr SY stretches each scar to find tethers, which are released with subcision before any heat is used; deep ice-pick tracts are treated with TCA CROSS; and a jawline that has descended is pointed towards focused ultrasound rather than needling. If you cannot set aside a few days of redness, Luminescence is a lower-downtime protocol that changes the skin more slowly.

Who suits RF microneedling is on RF microneedling suitability, how other platforms compare on RF microneedling devices compared, and pigment risk on RF microneedling in Asian skin.

FAQ

Morpheus8 And RF Microneedling — Common Questions

Ask a Question
No. Morpheus8 is not offered at Atelier. Atelier offers RF microneedling with insulated needles that release bipolar radiofrequency at depths chosen for each zone of the face. Because Morpheus8 belongs to the same treatment category, the questions that decide whether it would suit you, such as scar type, tethering, skin type and recovery time, are the same ones asked at an Atelier consultation.
Not necessarily. Its body applicator is marketed for deeper reach, but depth is a setting chosen for a target, not a measure of strength. Placing heat deeper than the problem sits does not improve the result and, in a lean face, heating fat can cause hollowing. A shallow scar or a slackened pore needs the dermis treated, at whatever device's depth matches it.
No. A rolling scar held down by fibrous bands needs those bands cut, which is what subcision does. Heat remodels collagen but does not cut a tether, whichever device delivers it. Once the scar can lift, RF microneedling can then remodel the dermis around it, so the two are usually used in that order.
The brand matters less than how the device is set. RF microneedling is commonly used in Fitzpatrick III to V skin, and insulated needles help by keeping heat off the surface. Conservative energy, the right depth for each zone, strict sun protection and a clear plan for any darkening are what keep the risk down, on any platform.
