Thread Lift Aftercare —
Let The Threads Settle

Threads hold lifted tissue while it settles around them, so aftercare means gentle movement and no pressure on the treated lines. Here is what to do in the first fortnight, and which signs mean Dr Sin Yong should see you early.

Day One

1. The First 24 Hours

Book a Consultation

How threads are placed is on the thread lift page; how you are likely to look is in thread lift downtime.

Do

  • Keep the entry points clean and dry, cleaning them gently with any antiseptic or saline you were given.
  • Rest a cool, clean compress lightly on swollen areas.
  • Eat soft food in small mouthfuls.
  • Follow your written aftercare; it comes before this page.

Avoid

  • Wide yawns, laughing with your mouth wide open, and hard or chewy food.
  • Picking at scabs, pressing hard, or massage.
  • Alcohol and hot shower water on your face for the rest of the day; saunas and hard exercise for about a week.

Days Two To Fourteen

2. The First Two Weeks

Swelling fades unevenly while tissue settles around the threads, so do not judge the result yet.

  • Mouth. No wide opening, hard chewing or dental work for about two weeks. If dental work is booked, tell the clinic so it can be timed.
  • Hands off. No facial massage, including gua sha, for about two weeks; no facials or home devices in the first week; and no HIFU, radiofrequency or laser over the thread paths until Dr SY has seen you at your check.
  • Dimples. Leave them alone, and let no one else massage, adjust or add to your threads; one that stays is dealt with at your check.

Skin And Sun

3. Skincare And Sun Protection

Wash and apply products by pressing and patting, not rubbing across the thread lines.

Start daily sunscreen once the entry points have closed, and avoid strong sun early on. In Fitzpatrick III to V skin, sun on a healing bruise can leave a brown mark.

Everyday Life

4. Sleep, Exercise And Make-Up

Sleep. For the first few nights, sleep on your back with your head raised on an extra pillow; a travel pillow or rolled towels either side help if you turn. Use a clean pillowcase each night while the entry points are open.

Exercise and heat. Walking is fine from the next day. Saunas, steam, hot classes and strenuous exercise wait about a week, until swelling and tenderness settle. Face yoga and facial exercises wait while the threads settle.

Make-up. Fine from the next day on unbroken skin, away from the entry points until they close, and removed by patting.

Safety

5. When To Contact The Clinic

Tightness and small dimples that ease day by day are expected. Call 995 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department, not to a clinic, for a change in vision, slurred speech, sudden weakness of the face or a limb, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat with difficulty breathing.

Contact the clinic the same day for:

  • pain that keeps building, or is far more than you were told to expect;
  • spreading redness, hot skin, swelling that grows after the first few days, pus at an entry point, or a fever;
  • a change in how part of your face moves, altered feeling that does not pass, or cheek swelling that changes when you eat.

Report promptly, rather than waiting for your two-week check: a thread end showing at the skin or a hard ridge beneath it; a dimple or asymmetry that persists once swelling has gone; a bruise that spreads rather than fades.

Call or WhatsApp +65 8023 7170 (Monday to Saturday, 11:00–20:00). Report early: a thread cannot be dissolved, but an intact one can sometimes be removed early on. Out of hours, any same-day sign, such as spreading redness with a fever, needs a doctor that day: if you cannot reach the clinic, go to the nearest hospital emergency department. FAQ

Thread Lift Aftercare — Common Questions

Ask a Question
Soft food on the first day, in small mouthfuls, so your jaw does not have to open wide or work hard. After that, chew on the softer side and leave out chewing gum; hard chewing is avoided for about two weeks. Talking and smiling normally are fine.
Yes. Continue blood-thinning medicines and supplements exactly as prescribed; stopping a prescribed medicine is always a decision for the doctor who prescribed it. A bruise that fades over the following days is expected. Report one that keeps spreading, so Dr SY can look at it.
Facials and home devices wait at least the first week, since they press or rub along the thread lines; your written aftercare gives the timing. Facial massage, including gua sha, waits about two weeks. Whether and when HIFU, radiofrequency or laser is used over the thread paths is decided with Dr SY once the swelling has settled.
In the first week, adjust or leave off anything tight that presses on the thread lines, such as goggles, a headband or a mask strap. Keep wearing a helmet or any safety gear you need, and ask the clinic how to wear it. Swimming and contact sports wait until the entry points have healed.
